Montage from painted Japanese paper

hares fighting

A multi media approach

to creating an interesting composition.

This painting’s background was washed in with watercolours onto 300gm paper. The images of the hares were drawn onto collagraph prints I’d already done and then cut out. They were then glued onto the paper.

Lastly, fine but tough, Japanese paper was torn into shreds and glued randomly onto the foreground and the hares’ legs. This was then painted over in watercolours of greens and yellows.

I have created quite a few

collagraph prints from broken egg shells and absolutely loved the results. But how to use them?

So far I’ve done the “Easter Island statues” and the ‘hares fighting”. I’m enjoying the results.

Next I’ll try cutting them up into the shapes of valley floors and mountains using their different textures and fading colours to gain the diminishing effect of receding montains.
