"Matilda and the Ghost" is my next book for older children from 6 to 10…

Matilda and the Ghost – front cover
Gone to the printers!
The story has been read, re-read and read again. This is a stage that can go on indefinitely as I consider what I have written and refine it and change it a million times. Eventually I declare; ‘that’s it no more corrections needed’… until another read throws up a better way of expressing a moment or character’s response!
Although there are only five illustrations,
they seem to have taken as long and caused as many sleepless nights as the last books’ 60 illustrations.
I have created a front, a back cover and two illustrations for the opening spread and the closing spread. Also one I had done before I changed my mind. Somehow, I just couldn’t face the challenge of needing to create skeletons, dungeons, suits of armour, a spiral stair-case, winking portraits, teddy bears and bunny slippers – all with complicated backdrops of buildings in the moonlight. So I copped out.
My design for the front cover.
Jo at Copy Press (https://www.copypress.co.nz/) will probably come up with a better front page design but I thought I would have a go.
I like the bold sensible font that reflects the unflappable Matilda and the spooky ghost font that hints at a ghostly presence – although the ghost turns out to be fun!!
