Setting up my stall in Nelson again. A cool morning - still and calm and…

Hanmer Fete November 2025
I got to sit down at around 4pm – phew!
Hanmer Springs turned on a fabulous sunny day for my second time at this Christmas market. The buzz of anticipation was motivating as everyone set up their stalls. Cars squeezed past large trailers nudging off the main thoroughfare so goods could be unloaded quickly and a swift squeeze out again as others arrived. Happy smiles and greetings of friends, offers of help to put up gazebos made the whole place vibrate with enthusiasm.
I sadly only had half an hour to browse
before the gates were opened to the queues of people waiting to come shopping. They swept in, consulting the list of people they needed to buy for and clutching lots of bags. They were full of interest to hear the benefits of buying wines from a small vineyard; hand-crafted jewellery; leather garments; stunning wild-life photography; linen women’s clothes; hand-made unique knitted stuffed toys; baby dresses and rompers; completely organic and hand-mixed sprays and creams for healthy skin care and me with my books! And that was only my corner; a small part of the whole.
I talked and sold non stop for three to four hours
although not every “chat” led to a sale. But I received very complimentary feedback and amazement that I had not only written the stories but illustrated them as well. Lots of interesting conversations developed as we exchanged experiences as writers, artists, child rearing and so much more.
Three more big markets to go
all interspersed with Nelson Market.
Mapua Makers Market on the 16 November (https://www.facebook.com/MapuaHallMakersMarket/).
Then Founders Fete on 23 November (https://www.nelsontasman.nz/explore/events/the-great-christmas-market/)
Then Wanaka Fete on 29 November (https://www.wanakafete.co.nz/)
I hope to see you there.
