Wood cut print bush scene

A wood cut print

I carved at Michel Tuffrey’s wood cut and print making workshop last weekend in Nelson. It was a roller coaster ride of ideas; techniques; different wood cuts achieved from a variety of carving tools for different effects. He drew from his enormous background in this medium to advise on approaches to many different subjects and a host of short cuts to achieve impactful results for truly awesome prints.

The first two days

were full of advice on the endless permutations in carving, printing, use of different colour papers, clever mask making to add colour.  His enthusiasm was infectious.

Every print off the press

was hailed by the group as a masterpiece and the unbelieving artist looked both amazed and mesmerised by their print.

He has some beautiful work to see and buy.
