Gelli pad printing

Home-made Gelli pad.

I made my own Gelli pad by carefully mixing gelatine and glycerin following the clear directions and demos on – kimherringe.com.au – web site, you too can make your own Gelli pad.

It’s a slippery customer to get hold of.

The commercial Gelli pads are firmer and easier to manage but with careful handling it is manageable. I have mine on a small tray so I can carry it easily after washing back to my studio. The surface is meant to be super smooth but I have a few bobbly bits and they don’t seem to be visible on my prints.

I use cheaper paint.

I am using cheaper paint as you seem to use a lot of paint, so until I feel more ‘in charge” that’s what I’ll do.

I see lots of potential.

I can see lots of potential uses.

Getting an interesting background. Or on a very faint print introducing other paints or media to extend your subject. Cutting bits out and using as a collage background. Lovely greeting cards. A calendar of flowers from the seasons…
