My next wood block carving printed - very happy with it. This was an image…
Time out from writing
In the lull before I start imagining my next book.
Printing in its many creative forms is always an exciting occupation. You never know in what surprising ways, what you’ve carved, scratched, applied torn pieces of paper, scattered dried flowers and leaves etc. etc. will be transformed by colour and being pressed under rollers.
Rene Hadlow’s wood carving workshop got me started.
Rene runs all sorts of printing courses from her heritage workshop (https://www.thearmarieroom.com/) at Founders Heritage Park (https://www.founderspark.co.nz/) in Nelson. The atmosphere is quietly creative with lots of help from Rene. The machinery you print with is antique but works beautifully.
More work to do on my wood blocks.
As you can see there are a few stray inky blobs that I haven’t carved deeply enough so they don’t contact the paper. It could be I need to adjust the rollers. All to be learnt as I ‘play’ with my printing press.
