Starting the paintings – last lap

I finished copying the rough drawings onto good watercolour paper and am now starting the last process before the book can go to ‘Copy Press’ and be prepared for printing.

It’s been a year at least since I painted at all so I’m feeling a bit apprehensive that I might have forgotten how!! But it’s all coming back.

I had to clean up my palette and see if I could identify the colours I used for my characters’ clothes last time. Then the challenge of getting the paint out of the tubes!! As any infrequent painter will know the paints can harden and refuse to budge when squeezed. There is also the problem of the reluctant cap!

I finish up after all the colours have been applied by picking out the details with a black or brown permanent maker pen. I can’t resist getting all the details as I think they add to the atmosphere of realism.

So two and half done and 55 and 1/2 to go.
